New Democracy Party

We are founding this party after the disappointment with the experience of more than 25 years with the Czech practice of democracy after 1989. The last elections, parliamentary in October 2017 a presidential in January 2018, have convinced us that the existing Czech political parties will never bring an improvement of the administration of public affairs. We are now convinced that new political parties must be built, rooted in moral integrity and the intention to provide truly democratic public service.

We see also that other democracies in the world aren’t too well off either. Several years of studies and of dismantling fixed ideas have led us to a new perception of what democracy should be, which we have put into our Study on Democracy. We are presenting this study on this web page.

One of the key points of our study is the realization that the model of democracy formed by the American Founding Fathers at the end of the 18th century is flawed. It served well so long as the elected representatives of the citizens were prevalently sensible and responsible people with high moral integrity, who understood their role as service to citizens. Over time, however, the quality of the people coming into the top elected positions declined and, as a result, democracy has begun to crumble gradually. The influence of backstage power groups in public administration is growing, whether they are the rich domestic magnates, as is mostly the case in the West, or hostile foreign-managed networks, primarily Russian, as in the new post-Communist democracies, but also elsewhere.

Our democracy study is the basis of our political program. It explains the basic principles of democracy, among them mutual respect, responsibility of citizens or the necessity of the representative form of democracy. It introduces the main instruments available to the citizens for the management of their public service, as particularly the civic activity, full access to the information about the work of public administration for all citizens, public debate or civic control. We will now, as our so far limited capacity will allow, keep adding further program goals to the main goals explained in the Study, with respect to their importance for good public service.
